Nigerians abroad: Awoniyi’s Forest dump Spurs out of League Cup; Iwuala, Sekidika, Bassey net in wins

Soccernet.ng highlights the performances of Nigerian stars abroad on Wednesday, November 9.

Taiwo Awoniyi featured as Nottingham Forest claimed a thrilling 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs in the third round of the League Cup.

Compatriot Emmanuel Dennis sat on the bench throughout as the Reds snapped their winless run to make it to the competition’s round of 16.

In the Italian Serie A, Ademola Lookman was a second-half substitute as Atalanta fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat at Lecce.

Lookman only on Tuesday won the club’s Player of the Month of October, but his introduction did not save the Nerazzurri from suffering a second straight league loss.

In the Netherlands, Calvin Bassey was on from start to finish as Ajax were forced to a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Vitesse.

Super Eagles winger Anayo Iwuala grabbed the only goal of the encounter as Belouizdad secured a 1-0 win away to ASO Chlef in the Algerian Ligue 1.

Exciting Nigerian forward Fortune Bassey round off the scoring for champions Viktoria Plzen in their 4-0 win at home to Zbrojovka Brno in the Czech Liga.

Nigerian forward Jesse Sekidika struck the winning goal to help Eyupspor carve out a 2-1 win over Duzcespor in the Italian Cup.

Nigerian stars Ibrahim Rasheed and Iyayi Atiemwen were the goalscorers for Sheriff in their 2-0 triumph at Milsami in the Moldovan Super Liga.

And finally, in the Spanish La Liga, Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze was on the winning team as Villarreal shot down Espanyol with the narrowest of margins.
