The Nigeria international has been crucial for his Spanish second-division side this campaign
Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has sustained a knee injury that will make him unavailable for Ponferradina’s next few matches.
Nwakali earned his 15th start of the campaign as Ponferradina made the trip to Malaga in a Segunda Division clash.
But the former Arsenal academy product was replaced ten minutes into the second half after he sustained a knock.
Ponferradina lost the encounter 1-0 to Malaga, the league’s bottom-placed side.
And the club has confirmed that the injury will keep Nwakali out of action for several weeks.
Nwakali has also vowed to return from his injury in no time.
Until his injury, Nwakali was one of the best performers for Ponferradina.
The 24-year-old playmaker has featured in 16 of Ponferradina’s 17 league matches, scoring once.
Ponferradina, though, have struggled in the league, with the club sitting in 18th position – just above the relegation zone – with 17 points.
A member of the Super Eagles team at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Nwakali previously played for Huesca in Spain before joining Ponferradina.
