The new Middlesbrough manager has been impressed with the attitude and application of the Arsenal academy product
Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has showered praises on Anglo-Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom for his attitude to a change of management and style.
Michael Carrick took over from Galileo Percovich as Boro’s boss in October and has overseen two matches, winning one and losing the other.
Akpom was named the man of the match in both games after scoring in the 2-1 defeat to Preston North End and the 3-1 win at Hull City.
The Super Eagles hopeful has adapted well to a change of role under Carrick, with the England manager requiring him to be more of a link between the midfield and the attack than an outright forward.
Carrick is delighted with how Akpom has interpreted his new position on the field.
“He’s taken to the role really well,” Carrick said, as per Gazette Live.
“Sometimes that bit of freshness, that little change, sometimes it can work. I think for the last two games the role suited him really nicely and he’s a big part of the team for us playing in that position. That defensively just as much as offensively as well.
“I think defensively; it’s maybe a bit more of a shift than he might be used to, chasing around and supporting our midfield a little bit and filling that gap. He’s done great and his attitude has been spot on.”
Chuba has been impressive in the Championship this term, registering six goals in 11 matches.
