The Flamingos claimed a famous victory over their German counterparts, but there was no bad blood between both teams
The German Under-17 Female team joined the Flamingos to dance to Nigerian singer Kiss Daniel’s hit song Cough(Odo) after their third-place game on Sunday.
Earlier in their first game of the World Cup, Germany defeated the Flamingos 2-1.
However, when both teams met in the third-place game, the Flamingos put in the extra work. This time, Nigeria beat Germany on penalties to secure their first-ever bronze medal at the Women’s Under-17 World Cup.
Goals from Opeyemi Ajakaye, Amina Bello, and Etim Edidiong put Nigeria ahead. But the Germans displayed character and resilience to nullify Nigeria’s three-goal lead and push the tie to penalties.
In the end, the Flamingos emerged victorious after Germany missed three of their spot kicks.
Nonetheless, there was no love lost between both teams, and they took time to unwind after the game, dancing to Nigerian tunes at the Fortune Hotel Navi Mumbai.
The players would hope that the World Cup would be the stepping stone to great heights in their careers.
