Matches in the Gameweek five of the UEFA Champions League were concluded on Wednesday night, with a few Nigerian stars experiencing mixed fortunes.
Super Eagles fullback came up tops over international teammate Raphael Onyedika as Porto crushed Club Brugge 4-0 in Belgium.
It was Onyedika’s first defeat in the competition with Brugge following an excellent outing in their first four matches. The Belgian champions were already through to the knockout round of the competition before Wednesday’s matchup.
The convincing win also handed Porto their knockout round ticket at the expense of Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
At the San Siro, Nigerian forward Fortune Bassey was in the starting lineup for Viktoria Plzen in their 4-0 tumbling to Inter Milan.
Bassey was subbed off at halftime as goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Edin Dzeko (brace), and Romelu Lukaku saw off the Czech champions.
Inter’s win sealed the Serie A side’s passage to the round of 16 ahead of Barcelona.
In the Netherlands, Calvin Bassey featured from start to finish, but his effort was not enough to stop Liverpool from running out 3-0 winners over Ajax Amsterdam.
With the defeat, Ajax are out of the Champions League but are in a good position to beat Glasgow Rangers to the Europa League ticket.
At the Diego Maradona Stadium, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was an unused substitute in Napoli’s 3-0 thrashing of Glasgow Rangers.
Giovanni Simeone’s first-half brace and Leo Ostigard’s strike after the break were all Napoli needed to outclass the Scottish giants.

This is becoming so obvious. Why is it that in a tough game like champions league spaletti will always bench Victor Osimhen. If this is their plans of ruining the young striker's career I suggest Victor Osimhen should leave the club. Does it mean that simeone and raspadori is better than Osimhen? I hate nonsense.
