“He’s the one who stands out” – Super Eagles star earns high ratings after 7 goals in last 6 games

The Nigeria international has scored in all but one of his last six league appearances

Former France international Jérôme Gnako has praised Josh Maja as the best player at Girondins Bordeaux so far in Ligue II this term.

Maja has been the star performer for Les Girondins as the club hunts for an instant return to Ligue 1 after getting relegated last term.

The one-cap Super Eagles striker has found the net seven times in his last six appearances for Bordeaux, with Les Girondins winning five of those encounters. The game Maja failed to score is the only one Bordeaux lost – away to Rennes – since the end of August.

Maja’s seven-goal tally is over 40 per cent of Bordeaux’s total haul of 17, with no other teammate apart from midfielder Logan Delaurier-Chaubet (2) and Dilane Bakwa (2) scoring more than once.

And in a team that boasts Brazil’s Fransérgio, Ukraine’s Danylo Ignatenko and Senegal’s Aliou Badji, Frenchman Jérôme Gnako is convinced that Maja shines brighter than the others.

“Josh Maja is the one who stands out at the start of the season,” Gnako said, as per Girondins4ever.

“It is true that for the moment, he is very effective. He is indeed someone who is a little above the lot at the moment.”

Bordeaux sit top of Ligue 2 with 23 points ahead of this weekend’s away clash at ninth-place Bastia.
