Europa League: Uzoho is spectacular, but Manchester dig deep to beat Omonia

The Nigerian was the human version of a salmon on the night, but he and his teammates fell short at the death

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho made twelve saves for Omonia Nicosia, but a late strike at the death from Scott McTominay helped Manchester United to a 1-0 victory.

Manchester United had to come back from a goal down to defeat Omonia Nicosia 3-2 at the Neo GSP Stadium last week.

However, at Old Trafford, the Red Devils were expected to whitewash the Cypriot champions.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho got the rare opportunity to man the sticks for Omonia against his favorite club Manchester United.

In an earlier tweet after the Europa League draws were made, Uzoho had revealed that he would be at his best if he got the chance to keep against the Red Devils- his favorite club.

Indeed Uzoho was in his elements on the night. Coach Erik Ten Hag fielded a strong lineup with Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line. However, Manchester United were not able to penetrate Uzoho.

The Nigerian shot-stopper made twelve big saves against the English giants. Nine of his saves were for shots from inside the box, he also won all his aerial duels, and registered 53 touches.

Unfortunately, Omonia could not see out the result, as substitute McTominay sent a low drive that beat Uzoho in stoppage time, to ensure that Manchester United ran out 1-0 winners.
