An action-packed Saturday witnessed several Nigerian footballers produce some of their best performances for their respective European clubs.
In the English Premier League, Taiwo Awoniyi netted the only goal as Nottingham Forest stunned Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the City Ground.
And after scoring against his former employers, Awoniyi becomes the first player to score in his first three Premier League starts at home for Nottingham Forest.
At Goodison Park, Alex Iwobi supplied two assists to inspire Everton to a convincing 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, ending a three-match losing streak for Frank Lampard’s men.
Iwobi now boasts five assists in the EPL this term and sits second behind Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on the assist chart.
Over at Loftus Road, Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun scored the winning goal as Queens Park Rangers edged to a 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.
Sam Field gave QPR an early lead, but Nathan Broadhead cancelled the home side’s advantage in the 22nd minute.
Two minutes later, though, Balogun popped up in the Wigan box to nod home what proved to be the winner, his first goal since joining QPR in the summer.
In the Netherlands, Calvin Bassey was impressive at left-back as Ajax steamrolled to a 4-1 triumph at RKC Waalwijk.
A brace each from Berghuis and Brobbey did the trick for the Eredivisie champions.
In the Belgian First Division A, Raphael Onyedika and Victor Boniface faced off as ten-man Union Saint-Gilloise forced Club Brugge to a 2-2 draw.
Brugge’s Onyedika featured from start to finish, while USG’s Boniface saw action for 75 minutes.
