Super Eagles trio get experienced Croatia’s France 98’ star as new coach

Super Eagles trio have a new coach in a former Croatian football star and former West Ham United coach

Slaven Bilic has been appointed the new coach of Watford as the Hornets sack Rob Edwards.

He was announced on Monday after signing an 18-month contract.

Watford are determined to get a return to the top flight with some of their best players retained but with ten games gone, they lie in 10th place, however, one place just outside playoff positions.

Bilic, a stylish and eccentric former Croatia national team coach starred for the Europeans at the 1998 World Cup and coached them at the Euros a decade after.

He has since managed at Besiktas, West Ham and a host of other teams.

Nigerian trio – Maduka Okoye, William Troost-Ekong, and Samuel Kalu have found decent game time hard to come by this season.

Bilic is expected to open a new slate for every member of the squad as he attempts to restore the club’s faith.

“As with all decisions taken by the Board, I believe this change to be in the best interests of the club,” says Hornets’ owner Gino Pozzo of the move.

“We felt Rob had enough time to show us the identity of his team, however performances haven’t reflected our hopes and ambitions.

“Now we must move forward, and, in Slaven Bilić, we have secured the services of an experienced coach who has recent experience of promotion to the Premier League.”

He has also experienced the Championship in the past having led West Brom to a place in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.
