Super Eagles to face Man United, Man City stars as top international friendly is set for November

Nigeria has already set a friendly match for September 27th against Algeria and will now face a top European side in November

The Super Eagles will face Portugal in an international friendly match in November according to a statement released by the NFF on Thursday on its official website.

After an agreement between the NFF and the Federação Portuguesa de Futebo, the friendly will hold at the Estadio De Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on the 17th of November.

The game is expected to serve as a top-friendly game for Portugal as they prepare for the 2022 World Cup. They have been drawn in the same group as Nigeria’s arch rivals who stopped the Super Eagles from qualifying for the mundial, Ghana.

Portugal have an avalanche of global football stars including one of the greatest man to have ever graced a pitch and their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo. Others are Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias etc.

“The match with Portugal will be the first clash at senior men level for both countries, though last year summer, the Super Falcons and the Senior Women Team of Portugal fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the USWNT Summer Series in Houston, Texas, USA.

“It can also be recalled that in 1989, Portugal’s U20 boys defeated Nigeria’s U20 boys 2-0 in the final of the FIFA World Youth Championship (now FIFA U20 World Cup finals) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“The Estádio José Alvalade is a natural grass facility that holds 50,000 spectators, and is home venue for Sporting Clube de Portugal. The facility is named after José Alvalade, the founder and first club member of Sporting CP who died in 1918. The stadium was opened in August 2003,” the NFF wrote in its statement.
