The in-form Super Eagles star was ruled out of Nigeria’s friendly game against Algeria, but he could be back in action just days later
Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru has resumed training with Adana Demirspor ahead of their big Turkish Super Lig clash against Galatasaray on Saturday.
Onyekuru joined Adana Demirspor in the summer on a loan transfer from serial Greek champions Olympiakos. Since he arrived in Turkey, the Super Eagles forward has been spectacular for the Blue Lightnings, scoring two goals and assisting two in seven league games.
His brilliance earned him a spot in coach Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the friendly against Algeria.
Unfortunately for Onyekuru, he sustained an injury in Adana Demirspor’s game against Konyaspor before the international break.
The injury effectively ruled him out of the Super Eagles’ game against Algeria. However, days later, Adana Demirspor president Murat Sancak allayed fears of a possible lengthy layoff.
Now, according to Depar Sports, Onyekuru has returned to training for the Super Lig leaders. And it is believed that the 25-year-old would be fully fit ahead of Adana Demirspor’s clash against Galatasaray on Saturday.
The fixture is the biggest and most significant in Turkey at the moment considering Adana Demirspor’s blistering start to the season that has seen them drop just four points from a possible 28.
Undisputed Turkish giants Galatasaray sit second in the Super Lig behind Adana Demirspor, albeit due to their inferior goal difference. And they would be looking to topple their Adana hosts with a victory.
Nonetheless, Onyekuru could have a big say if he plays. The Super Eagles star won the Super Lig and Turkish Cup with Galatasaray in 2019. But this time, he would be looking to wreak havoc against them.
