Super Eagles forward was on target in his side’s away draw against Sivasspor and has reached a milestone in Europe for his Czech side
Peter Olayinka has become Slavia Prague’s highest goal scorer in European competitions.
Olayinka scored for the Europa Conference League campaigners in their 1-1 draw against Turkish side, Sivasspor on Thursday.
It was his 12th European goal, and it drew him level with Tomaš Dosek who played for the Czech side for five years between 1999 and 2004.
Olayinka has spent four years in the Czech Republic and has risen to become arguably their most important player. His ever-present nature also means he has played more European games than any player in the club’s history with 50 appearances.
He spoke about his latest achievement and what it means to him;
“I remember when I came here, it all started in 2018, I just wanted to play, to help the team. And I am just lucky. I am proud to be Slavia top scorer, it’s great for me and for the team as well. They helped me to achieve this, so, many thanks to everyone.
“I think we were a little bit unlucky. We fought hard till the end, and everyone put in 100%, even more. This was the first game, and we could win to boost confidence, but now we know we have a lot of work to do as it is not an easy group for us. We need to focus on the next game.”
Olayinka was touted with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window but his valuation by the club kept suitors away.
