Sadiq’s Sociedad takes Man Utd scalp in Europa League opener

The Nigerian forward had a quiet game by his standard but his team won the game on controversial terms

Sadiq Umar featured for 46 minutes before he was substituted in Sociedad’s 1-0 away win at the Old Trafford.

The game, which was drab in by a large degree saw Sociedad score through a controversial penalty.

The hosts didn’t provide much and played second fiddle for most parts of the game but created the better scoring chances.

Cristiano Ronaldo was culpable for not showing enough sharpness in a number of moments while Sadiq for Sociedad also hardly had any great moment worth memories.

The La Liga side held off for a 1-0 win and must be delighted by the opener to their European campaign.

Manchester United’s struggle against Spanish opposition continues in Europe with losses now recorded against Sevilla, Villarreal and now Sociedad.

Sadiq, returning to European football after a long time out played with brakes on and wasn’t quite the element for large spells.

He was justifiably hurled off in the beginning of the second half as Sociedad pushed for more control.
