The Napoli forward is unlikely to feature for the Super Eagles when they face the 2019 Afcon champions next week
Italian Serie A campaigners Cremonese have confirmed that striker Cyriel Dessers has received a Nigerian national team call-up ahead of the international friendly against Algeria.
Three-time African champions Nigeria trade tackles with the 2019 Afcon kings in Oran on September 27.
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro will not be able to call on Napoli forward Victor Osimhen and Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq for the encounter.
The two strikers have been among Nigeria’s most prolific and most valuable players in Europe over the last few years.
But injuries to Osimhen and Sadiq while on duty for Napoli and Real Sociedad have ruled them out of the Super Eagles clash with Algeria.
And with a statement on the official website, Cremonese have revealed that Jose Peseiro has turned to Dessers for goals in the upcoming international friendly.
Dessers scored his first goal for Nigeria in a friendly against Mexico earlier in the year.
But the 2022 Europa Conference League top goalscorer is still hunting for his first goal for Cremonese since joining the side in August.
The former Heracles man, however, netted three goals in three league appearances for Genk before switching to Italy from Belgium.
