Maja, Bassey, Olusegun post perfect performances in Bordeaux, Ajax, Krasnoder wins

It was a Saturday to remember for three of Nigeria’s most in-form players at the moment as they came through for their respective clubs.

Josh Maja continued his excellent early-season form as he slammed home a hat-trick to power Girondins Bordeaux to a brilliant 3-1 win at Paris FC in their game week seven clash.

Maja opened the scoring in the 14th minute and then scored a brace of penalties on either side of halftime to hand Bordeaux a healthy three-goal advantage In the encounter played at the Stade Charléty in Paris. French attacker Morgan Guilavogui netted a late consolation for the hosts.

But it was not enough to deny Bordeaux the win that took them to the top of the French Ligue 2.

Super Eagles striker Josh Maja now has four goals in seven games, equal in third place on the goalscorer chart with compatriot and Amiens forward Tolu Arokodare.

Maja nets a penalty

In the Netherlands, Calvin Bassey was again brilliant as Ajax smashed visiting Cambuur 4-0 at the Jihan Cruyff Arena in a matchday five matchup.

Deployed again at centre-half, Bassey helped the reigning Eredivisie champions seal their third consecutive clean sheet.

In an excellent display, the Super Eagles defender won 100 percent of his ground duels, completed 94 percent of his passes, and assisted Ajax’s fourth goal of the evening.

In the Russian Premier League, young Nigerian attacker Olakunle Olusegun was the hero for Krasnodar in their 2-1 win over Sochi in a game week eight meeting on Saturday.

The former Golden Eaglets forward scored the opener shortly after the break and claimed the assist for Krasnodar’s second moments later to power the club to their fifth league win of the campaign.

High-flying Krasnodar now boast 17 points to share the top spot on the league table with Zenit.
