Rangers made over €30million from the sale of two Super Eagles stars, and one of them was instrumental in the Gers’ 4-0 thrashing on Wednesday
Rangers coach Giovanni Van Bronckhorst admitted that he wishes that he had the services of Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey when they took on Ajax in the UEFA Champions League. But he maintains that the team has to move on.
Bassey left Rangers for Ajax in the summer, in a deal believed to be around €25million- a record sale for Rangers. And since he arrived in Amsterdam, the Super Eagles star has adjusted quickly.
The former Leicester City man has made three league appearances for the Eredivisie kings this season.
Bassey made his Champions League debut for Ajax, and he put in a strong performance to help his side claim a convincing 4-0 win at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Speaking after his side’s loss to Ajax, Van Bronckhorst admitted that he misses Bassey.
“We changed some of our players,” Van Bronckhorst said as per OJB Sports.
“Of course, I would have loved to have Calvin on the bench today, but we sold him for so much money. Players go and players come. They are good players but they are not playing for us anymore.
The Dutch coach is under pressure to deliver at Ibrox. Prior to the defeat at Ajax, Rangers also lost to Celtic last weekend in the Old Firm derby.
He would look to change the fortunes of his side as soon as possible.
