Different emotions took the reins as the Super Eagles star made his UEFA Champions League debut
Calvin Bassey has reacted to what he felt as the UEFA Champions League anthem came up at the Amsterdam Arena.
The Nigerian defender played greatly in the game and bagged an assist but it was the emotions that came before the game that looked to reveal a lot in him.
“I believe in God so I was just asking for that strength and protection because you never know anything can happen. I was asking me and my teammates to leave the pitch with at least with ten… eleven men. I always want to give my best while God takes control of the rest ” he said about his prayers before the game.
“I had the smile and it’s every kid’s dream. To play in the Champions League and the sound is like a blessing honestly. It’s a surreal moment. I just tried to calm down and not let the pressure get to me while I focus on the game. After that, naturally I just calmed down. I was nervous up until the game but when the game started I was fine, ” he told Ajax TV.
“It’s one of the best days of my life, one of the best days of my career obviously.”
