How new Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter helped Ghana defeat Nigeria 15 years ago

Graham Potter has been announced as the new Chelsea coach but his career in coaching has lasted quite some time with involvements also recorded in African football

The former Brighton coach graduated from the Open University in 2005 with a degree in Social Sciences.

He worked as a Football Development Manager for the University of Hull before joining Ghana in 2007 as Technical Director of the Black Queens.

According to Ghanaian Sports journalist, Owuraku Ampofo, Potter was responsible for the tactical and technical training programme, match performance, preparation and team selection.

According to a diary of his time with the Black Queens of Ghana, Potter arrived in Ghana on the 12th of August, Owuraku tweeted as he watched Ghana beat Nigeria 1-0 in the 2007 Olympic Qualifiers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

He was in charge of development at Ghana but never got to follow the team to the Olympics due to visa issues.

He has also managed a Nigerian player, Alhaji Gero in the past at Ostersunds.

Gero is a former U-20 international and had his best career returns under the Englishman when he played in Sweden.
