The Nigeria international powered the newly-promoted Reds to their first top-flight win in over two decades
Several Nottingham Forest supporters have showered praises on Taiwo Awoniyi after the Nigerian striker led the Reds to a historic Premier League win on Sunday afternoon.
Awoniyi only joined the Reds from Union Berlin for a club-record €20 million this summer.
But in his first Premier League start at the City Ground, the 25-year-old grabbed the only goal as Nottingham Forest secured a fine 1-0 victory over visiting West Ham United.
It was Forest’s first win in the top-flight since a 1-0 triumph over Leicester City in May 1999.
Awoniyi’s strike was also the club’s first goal in the EPL in over 23 years.
Aside from his goal, Awoniyi offered the Forest attack a robust representation.
The Super Eagles striker was decent with his back to goal, held on to the ball well, closed down defenders brilliantly, and chased down nearly every ball.
It was an all-round performance that instantly made him the darling of every NFFC fan in the Stadium.
Many of those supporters flooded Twitter to applaud his display, with a couple of fans convinced that the former Liverpool signing will be a nightmare for many Premier League defenders this season.
Awoniyi will look to build on his excellent West Ham United performance when Forest visit Everton on Saturday.
