The Super Eagles forward scored a historic first on his full Premier League debut and on The Reds’ return to the top flight after more than two decades
It took Nottingham Forest 23 years to get back to the top flight and their promotion had an element of fate to it.
Despite being in the lower rungs of the Championship table in the first ten games of the season, they jolted back to life under Steve Cooper and did the seemingly unthinkable when they bagged promotion through the Playoffs.
That game against Huddersfield in Wembley feels like a long time ago already as many events of similar historic proportions have happened.
One of such events is Taiwo Awoniyi’s fortuitous goals against West Ham, and opportunities favour the brave. Fortunes smile on those who are there to take it.
With a smile on his face, he harried West Ham defenders and fought for every ball. His industry was exciting for the vocal Forest fans who made the City Ground hallowed for the occasion of their Premier League return.
While West Ham may feel hard done by the result of the game as they came close to nicking something from it, the excellence of that story would not be dissolved.
The main act in Forest’s lone goal victory, Awoniyi took autographs with fans of the club after the game and Soccernet spoke to some of them who expressed their excitement and desire to see him succeed.
”He had a great game today. Best striker we’ve got at Nottingham Forest. Yeahhhhhhh. He should score at least fifteen goals this season. He should be going twenty. Go Taiwooo!” an excited Nottingham Forest fan told Soccernet.
Awoniyi went on to sign autographs and take pictures with a number of Nottingham Forest’s fans as he drove out of the stadium.
