Victor Osimhen’s purported move to Manchester United suffers major hiccup

Many Nigerians would love to see the Napoli striker make a move to the English Premier League, arguably the most glamorous in the world

It is looking increasingly unlikely that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will complete a sensational move to Manchester United this summer.

It has been widely reported that celebrated football agent Jorge Mendes is pushing to convince Manchester United to allow Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to join Napoli on loan.

The former Real Madrid forward is keen on playing in this season’s UEFA Champions League, a competition United did not qualify for.

The other part of the deal would see Manchester United cough out more than 100 million euros to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

What is the status of the deal?

Napoli have not received any bid yet from United for Osimhen.

Team manager Luciano Spalletti confirmed this much at a press conference where he also revealed that Napoli would not be interested in a direct swap deal.

But things could change quickly, with Ronaldo’s agent Mendes hinting that United’s bid for Osimhen would arrive in the coming hours.

It was, however, clear that United only see Osimhen as a Plan B, with Ajax’s attacker Antony the Red Devils’ primary attacking target.

The Old Trafford giants have been chasing the young Brazilian forward all summer, with Ajax playing hardball.

What is the implication of a breakthrough in Antony talks?

On Sunday, however, United made a breakthrough in talks for Antony.

Per transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, Ajax have agreed to negotiate with Man United for the transfer of the exciting striker.

And with United close to their priority signing, any hopes of completing a deal for Victor Osimhen retreat to the backyard.

Though the Premier League is a dream destination, Osimhen would be pleased to continue his adventure in Naples.

The Super Eagles ace has kicked off the season in style, scoring two goals in his first two league games.
