Transfer: Birmingham City set to bring Super Eagles star back to England

With the close of the transfer window only a few hours away, the deals are coming thick and fast, with a Nigerian striker also about to seal a surprise move

One-cap Super Eagles striker Josh Maja is set to quit French club Girondins de Bordeaux and return to England to join EFL Championship campaigners Birmingham City.

According to transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, Birmingham City have submitted an official bid to Bordeaux for Maja, with the 23-year-old forward set to ink a five-year deal.

Born in Lewisham, England, Maja spent his youth career at Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Manchester City before he made his breakthrough at Sunderland.

But the Nigeria international left England for France in 2019 to join Les Girondins.

It has not been smooth sailing for Maja at Bordeaux, leading him to take loan spells away at Fulham in 2021 and Stoke City in 2022.

With Bordeaux relegated to Ligue 2, Maja has played a more prominent role in attack this season, featuring in all of the side’s six games.

The former Crystal Palace schoolboy has contributed one goal and three assists, with his man-of-the-match performance on Tuesday guiding David Guion’s men to a convincing 4-0 win over Quevilly Rouen.
