Super Eagles stars to face each other as UEFA Champions League draws are released

The group stage draws of the UEFA Champions League have been released and two Super Eagles stars will have a head to head

Victor Osimhen’s Napoli have been drawn in group A alongside Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam, Glasgow Rangers and Liverpool on their return to Europe’s elite football club cup competition.

Calvin Bassey, who currently plays for Ajax will have a chance to face his Super Eagles teammate in a potential head-to-head clash over two legs. He will also be facing his old club, Rangers in a potential return to Ibrox for 22-year-old defender.

The strongest team in the group looks to be Liverpool, who made it to the final last season.

Which other Nigerians are involved?

In group B, Zaidu Sanusi’s FC Porto will face Club Brugge, Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid to fight for a place in the next round of the competition.

Fortune Bassey will have an opportunity to face some of the biggest teams in Europe and travel to some of the best stadia when Viktoria Plzen face Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan in group C.

The forward is currently at the Czech champions on loan and will look forward to the grand occasions.

Sporting Lisbon, Olympique Marseille, Tottenham and Frankfurt have been drawn in group D while Chelsea, Italian champions Dinamo Zagreb and Austrian champions Salzburg have been in drawn in group E. Samson Tijani will not have an opportunity to play in those games as he’s out for the rest of the season with a fractured tibia and fibula.

Olanrewaju Kayode will face Celtic, Shakhtar Donestk, Leipzig, and Real Madrid in group F.

Akinkunmi Amoo’s FC Copenhagen have been drawn alongside Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Manchester City in Group G while group H has Maccabi Haifa, Benfica, Juventus, and PSG.

When is the UEFA Champions League starting?

The 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League will start on the 6th of September and end on the 10th of June, 2023.
