After days of negotiations, the former Charlton Athletic winger’s move will be finalised in the coming hours
Ademola Lookman will join Atalanta for €15m according to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
Lookman had emerged as a top transfer interest at Bergamo after Leicester failed to make his move permanent following a season-long loan from RB Leipzig.
The former Everton winger has had a rather nomadic career for some time playing in four different clubs either on loan or permanently since he joined Everton from Charlton as a youngster.
The RB Leipzig winger is highly-rated by Atalanta and is expected to get down to business once a deal is completed.
“Atalanta are now set to sign Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig, agreement reached for fee around €15m. Player in Italy in order to undergo medicals and then sign the contract.
“Final steps to be completed in the next hours.”
Lookman is an exciting player on his day but has a lot to work on to be the player many thought he’d become seven years ago.
He joined Everton as one of England’s most revered talents but hardly broke into the first eleven at the club, prompting a move to Leipzig where he also struggled to get good minutes.
He is pacy and can determine the outcome of games with a burst of good thinking, however, that’s hardly seen as he also has a tendency to fizzle out of games.
He operates best from the left and will slug it out with Ivorian singer, Jeremie Boga for a place in Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.
For two consecutive seasons, Atalanta were the highest-scoring side in the Serie A and one of the highest in Europe but struggled for colour last season.
A very attacking team, Lookman may benefit from Gasperini’s desire to always have his team on the front foot unlike the kind of systems Lookman has played under in the last two seasons of his career.
