Arsenal send message to Super Eagles legend on birthday

English Premier League giants Arsenal have sent their best wishes to Super Eagles Legend Kanu Nwankwo on his 46th birthday.

Kanu retired from active football in 2012, but his brilliance, dexterity, and deception can never be forgotten for club and country.

The retired Super Eagles star started his journey to prominence at the Under-17 World Cup which Nigeria won, beating Ghana in the final in 1993.

Two years later, Kanu alongside Finidi George at Ajax, became the first Nigerians to win the UEFA Champions League.

A year later, the two-time CAF player of the year engraved his name in Nigerian hearts, scoring a brace against Brazil at the 1996 Olympics to help Nigeria to a maiden gold medal in Atlanta.

Kanu battled with heart issues after his move from Inter Milan to Arsenal in 1999, but he bounced back.

The Super Eagles legend made his name in England, registering 44 goals and 28 assists in 194 appearances. Kanu’s name would always echo in North London for his hattrick against Chelsea in the Gunners’ 3-2 comeback victory in 1999.

Arsenal took to Twitter to celebrate their cult hero on his 46th birthday.
