“Amazing” – Atletico Madrid celebrates Super Falcons star after match-winning display

The Nigerian international forward marked her return from the WAFCON with an exceptional performance for the Spanish club

Atlético de Madrid Femenino have hailed Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade after her excellent display power the former Spanish league champions to a comfortable preseason win at the weekend.

Ajibade netted a superb hat-trick as Atlético de Madrid handed Alhama CF a 6-1 thrashing.

In what is Atletico Madrid’s second preseason friendly and Ajibade’s first, the 22-year-old was implying unplayable, scoring her side’s first three goals.

The Super Falcons ace hit the target twice in the first half before completing her haul in the 52nd minute.

Impressed by Ajibade’s dominant display, Atletico Madrid took to their Twitter account to post a photo image of the youngster and tag her ‘Amazing’.

What did Ajibade say after another brilliant performance?

Ajibade, speaking after the encounter, revealed her motivation for going into every match with a winning mentality.

The Nigeria international said: “The team has done well, and the most important thing is that we have won because that is the objective, to win all the games with the Atleti shirt, it doesn’t matter if it’s a pre-season match, a friendly or a competition, we just have to play to win.

“It is a good match to understand each other more as a team, to understand our patterns and structures, and to build on what we have been learning during the week.

“It’s going really well, a lot of work to improve as a team. There is a lot of work to be done and a lot of things to improve and perfect individually and collectively as we approach the new season.”

Ajibade was equally outstanding at the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations, where defending champions Nigeria disappointingly finished fourth.

The Atletico Madrid ace was, however, Nigeria’s best player at the tournament. She was named to the team of the tournament after emerging as the joint-top scorer.

Ajibade vows that she has put that bitter-sweet story of the WAFCON behind her as she aims to help her club achieve their objectives for next season.

“I am very excited to be back with the team after the WAFCON 2022 tournament; many changes, but such is life, and such is football.

“The most important thing for me is to keep working hard to improve and help the team achieve the goals,” Ajibade concluded.
