The young Nigerian ladies are the bookmaker’s slight favourites to advance to the semifinal of the Mundial
Nigeria U20 women’s national team’s leading striker Flourish Sabastine has vowed to help the Falconets shoot down the Netherlands later on Sunday night.
The Falconets will face the Dutch girls at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup ongoing in Costa Rica.
Coach Chris Danjuma Musa’s girls got to this stage of the competition by topping Group C with nine points after outclassing France, South Korea, and Canada.
Having never missed any edition of the World Cup, the Falcons are looking to make it to the semifinal for only the fourth time in history.
But the Netherlands, in only their second appearance at the World Cup, have shown that they are not scared of the big names.
The Dutch girls accounted for the ouster of the United States after beating the three-time champions 3-0 in the group stage.
Nigeria, though, mean business. And Sabastine, who scored the winner against France on matchday one, promises that the Falconets will give everything to emerge victorious over the Netherlands.
The 19-year-old wrote on Twitter, “Big GAME DAY. All or nothing.”
Nigeria have twice finished runners-up at the World Cup in 2010 and 2014.
