The Super Falcons captain hobbled out after she sustained an injury in their interesting semifinal clash against Morocco
Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi has revealed that she would be out of action for six-eight weeks due to a hamstring injury she sustained in Nigeria’s penalty shoot-out loss to Morocco.
The Super Falcons locked horns with hosts Morocco in the semi-final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. However, it ended on a sour note for the nine-time African champions.
Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimat Ayinde received their marching orders midway into the second half. Also, Ebi was taken off because of an injury.
Still, with nine women, Nigeria held on strong to push the game to extra time.
Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Morocco claimed the victory, 5-4 on penalties.
The 39-year-old had already been ruled out for the third-place match against Zambia, and she has come out to reveal how long she would be out.
“I’m out due to a hamstring injury (biceps femoris muscle tear – Grade 2),” Ebi posted on Twitter.
“And I could require between six weeks to two months to recover. I suffered the injury in the grueling semi-final battle against Morocco on Monday that we lost on penalty shootout in Rabat. I will be back.”
In the absence of Ebi, Leicester City defender Ashley Plumptre would be depended upon to bring solidity to the center-back position.
