“One-on-ones, he is unstoppable” – Super Eagles winger impresses ex-Spurs star Moussa Sissoko

The France international returned to Ligue 1 on the first of July after nearly a decade in the English Premier League

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has revealed his admiration for Nigerian winger Moses Simon just weeks after both became teammates at FC Nantes.

Sissoko left Toulouse for Newcastle in January 2013 for two million euros. After subsequently featuring for Tottenham and Watford, the 32-year-old returned to France to join Nantes for €2 million on the first of July.

He meets a Nantes squad that rose from the ashes of near-relegation in 2021 to the heights of the French Cup triumph this year.

Simon was one of the most productive stars for the Canaries as they finished in a respectable ninth position on the league table.

Despite links to a move to the Premier League, the Super Eagles winger has stayed put at Nantes.

Although, Simon resumed late for preseason after his commitments with Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.

On his return to club camp, however, Simon has been a handful for defenders leaving Sissoko stunned by his ability to go past opponents with ease.

The French star has a few good words about several Nantes players, but he is most impressed by the club’s Nigerian import.

In an interview with Ligue 1, Sissoko said, “This is a very good squad! Ludovic Blas is a very big player, very strong technically, Marcus Coco too and, as I said before, Pedro Chirivella has a great technical ability. There is also Alban Lafont in goals, who is, in my opinion, close to the doors of the French team.

“I almost forgot him because he started his pre-season later than everyone else, but Moses Simon is amazing. In one-on-ones, he is unstoppable.

“After that, there are young players who are very strong, but we have to give them time. There is really enough to have a very good team.”

Nantes’ season kicks off proper this weekend as the Yellow House will square up against league champions Paris Saint-Germain for the Trophée des Champions.
