“Make them tremble when they see you” – inside Akide’s open letter to Super Falcons

Super Falcons legend, Mercy Akide chose the most powerful words as she wrote a strongly-worded open letter to the Nigerian players

The Super Falcons will begin their quest for a 10th WAFCON with an opening game against eternal rivals South Africa.

Akide, a Super Falcons star when she played has sent a big message to the team in an open letter.

The former famous Super Falcons number 10 employed the use of motivating words to drive home her message in the letter released earlier on Monday.

”My dear Super Falcons class of 2022.

As you begin the year’s Africa Women’s Nations Cup, I wanted to take some time and drop you a quick message. A message to remind you of who you are and what you represent.

”You’re the best team in Africa. Period. You represent an enterprising people with a never say die mentality. You represent a culture of winning. You represent a tradition of success and you represent a legacy of never giving up no matter what.

”All these values are what you carry into this tournament,” the statement read in part.

The former African Footballer of the year who represented the Super Falcons in three World Cups mentioned some of the players in the team as examples of what the team stands for.

“Make them tremble when they see you. Make them lose before they step on the pitch. I played with Onome (Ebi), I know how good and strong she is. I see Asisat and there is no better player in Africa right now. I see the likes of Ashleigh, Toni (Payne), Michelle (Alozie) and Ify (Onumonu), who bleed proudly green and white and I see a team that is unstoppable,” she wrote further.

Akide’s letter concluded with reminding the team of the need to win because they are the Super Falcons.
