The Nantes star is the only Nigerian present in the yearly CAF awards, and the former Nigerian coach is elated with his feat
Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has congratulated Nantes forward Moses Simon on his nomination for the CAF player of the year award.
Simon was the only Nigerian player that made the thirty-man shortlist for the CAF player of the year. Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi, and Joe Aribo were all snubbed in a list that had the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Bertrand Traore.
Eguavoen was Nigeria’s coach earlier this year when Simon impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations. And he took to social media to congratulate the Super Eagles forward.
The last time a Nigerian won the CAF player of the year award was 23 years ago. And it does not seem like that would change when the awards ceremony takes place in July 2022.
Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane, who won the Nations Cup with Senegal earlier this year, and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah are widely considered favorites.
