“We want to be at the top”- Peseiro targets flawless finish in AFCON qualifiers

The Super Eagles are overwhelming favourites to claim the AFCON ticket in group A, and Peseiro is unwilling to leave any stone unturned

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is only targeting victories in the ongoing African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Peseiro just took over the Super Eagles’ reins in May, and so far, it has been mixed results for the former Braga coach as he lost his first two games, albeit friendlies. However, he redeemed himself with a victory against Sierra Leone in the opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers on Thursday.

Nigeria take on Sao Tome and Principe on Monday, and it looks to be an interesting matchup for the Super Eagles as Sao Tome and Principe are one of the lowest-ranked teams in the world. They were disgraced in their opening games against Guinea Bissau 5-1, and with the quality in the Nigerian side, the Falcons and true Parrots could get a good wallop from the three-time African champions.

Sao Tomé & Principé are the fourth team in the group, and considering the gulf in quality, they should not pose a problem for Nigeria.

Peseiro is convinced of the talent inherent in his team, and he believes that they have enough to emerge on top in the end.

“We want to be the team at the top of the table, Peseiro said as per OgaNla Media.

“So we must fight hard against the opponents. Every match, we must commit ourselves fully to winning it.

“As I said earlier in the week, Nigeria have huge pedigree and they also have both quality & quantity of players.”
