The Portuguese tactician was handed the reins of the Super Eagles last month, and he is already looking to claim silverware
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has affirmed his belief in the Super Eagles whilst staying that his target is to win the Africa Cup of Nations.
Peseiro was appointed coach of the three-time African champions in May, and he was quickly thrown into the fire with friendly games against Mexico and Ecuador. However, the Super Eagles lost both games.
Nonetheless, the results were inconsequential as both games served as an opportunity for the 62-year-old to assess the quality of talent at his disposal.
However, Nigeria’s next game will be the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and there would be no margin for errors.
Peseiro met with the Minister of Sports Sunday Dare, and the Portuguese tactician assured the Minister that with the quality at his disposal, he would lead the three-time African champions to another silverware on the continent.
“I came here for one goal, I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians”, Peseiro said, as per OgaNla Media.
“I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players.
“I have followed Nigeria’s history in football from the 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again.”
The last time the Super Eagles played a competitive game, it was a painful result as they were pipped to the World Cup ticket by Ghana.
However, they would be looking to redeem themselves under the tutelage of Peseiro when they square off against the Leone Stars on Thursday.

Yet we had coach in Gernot Rohr who complained about the quality of our players. We do not have players in top clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U, Man City, so he could not build a good team. The same team and same players he left behind is now playing on a different level now.
That’s Gernot Rohr’s opinion. He’s entitled to that. When you make a person not just footballers that he can do it and believe in one’s self. The person will spring surprises. That’s the fact of life. Nigerians are case study. They keeps their heads up wherever they are. And any part of the world you go other nationals know that Nigerians are smart. They don’t underestimate Nigerians. Presero knows that before hand. Nigeria is not oil rich Venezuela. We may have our domestic problems but we are proud and humble people.
Even Rohr saying that B.S. He has own good and bad side. He himself’s not even a quality or first class coach. He did good job in some areas. But the truth is that he’s past now. Let’s move forward.
