Nigeria defeat Togo in WAFU B U-17 Cup; progress to Semifinal

The Golden Eaglets continued their impressive performance at the WAFU Cup Zone B as they handed a defeat to the Junior Hawks

Nigerian U-17 boys were once again at their best as they defeated Togo 3-1 in Cape Coast, Ghana.

Goals by Kevwe Iyede, and Precious Williams gave the Eaglets a 2-0 advantage in the first half.

Williams scored his second of the tournament having grabbed a goal when Nigeria defeated Ghana 4-2 in the first game of the group.

Light Eke, one of the tournament’s finest players came on in the second half to delight Nigerians as he scored a third for the Eaglets. His goal came after Togo had halved the deficit with a cleanly-struck free kick.

The Eaglets have now qualified for the semifinal after finishing as group winners with 6 points, scoring seven goals and conceding three.

The best two teams in the tournament will book a place to the U-17 AFCON in Algeria in early 2023.

Former Super Eagles star and coach of the team, Nduka Ugbade had stated that they are in Ghana to win the tournament.

A player from Moses Simon’s academy, Emmanuel Michael won his second player of the match award and has been said to be a special player.
