Injuries and suspensions watered down the Nigeria international striker’s impact, but his outstanding qualities still showed for the Neapolitans
No one in the Italian Serie A scored more headed goals than Victor Osimhen, making the Super Eagles striker the best header of the ball in the just concluded 2021-22 season.
Osimhen only managed 14 league goals for Il Partenopei during another championship campaign marred by injuries, suspensions, and coronavirus.
But the former Lille forward (8th) still finished in the top ten on the Serie A goalscoring chart.
Lazio’s Ciro Immobile outscored everyone else with 27 goals, while Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic netted 24 times for Fiorentina and Juventus.
Inter’s Lautaro Martinez (21), AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham (17), Verona’s Simeone (17), and Sassuolo’s duo of Scamacca (16) and Berardi (15) all got more goals than Osimhen.
But the numbers, as per Tutto Napoli, confirm that none of them have a better headshot than the Nigerian forward.
Seven of Osimhen’s goals came from headers, placing the 23-year-old on top of the headed goals chart.
His closest challenger Lazio’s Immobile has six goals from headers, while Juventus forward Vlahovic and Genoa’s Mattia Destro boast five each.
Osimhen could be on his way to England to test his might against the Premier League’s best, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United keen on his services.
But recent reports suggest Africa’s most expensive signing may spend another year in Italy, with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis deciding against letting go of his prized jewel for less than €110 million.
Osimhen was named the best U-23 player in the Serie A this season.
