“I think I have a lot to be happy about”- Super Eagles star shares thoughts on past season

The 25-year-old midfielder had a terrific season at Ibrox, but he was only able to claim one major silverware

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has admitted that even though he was disappointed with some outcomes, he believes there are many positives to take from the just-concluded season.

Aribo had a brilliant season with Rangers. The Super Eagles midfielder played the most games for the Gers last season, but he always delivered whenever he was on duty.

Aribo played different positions last season, switching positions in midfield and the attack. He started as a false nine in the UEFA Europa League last season, scoring Rangers’ solitary goal. Nonetheless, they went on to lose to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

Also, Rangers relinquished the Scottish Premiership to Celtic after a tough title battle.

However, the Gers clinched the Scottish Cup, beating Celtic in the run-up to their triumph.

Aribo played under two different coaches last season, as Legendary Dutchman Giovanni Van Bronckhorst took over from Steven Gerrard after the latter left for Aston Villa midway into the season.

Nonetheless, Aribo still kept churning out brilliant performances.

It was not entirely rosy for the former Charlton man. He suffered heartbreak twice, with the Super Eagles crashing out of the Africa Cup of Nations in the second round and losing out on World Cup qualification to a weak Ghanaian side.

Aribo admits that it affected him, but he still believes he had a successful year.

“It’s been a long season, and I have played many games,” Aribo said as per Scottish Daily Express.

“For me, it was a good season. When I look at my numbers, stat-wise, I think I have a lot to be happy about.

“But I wanted more, especially when you compare the numbers I was coming up with in the first part of the season compared with the second half of the season.

“And I was also disappointed that we couldn’t win the Europa League.

“Failing to qualify for the World Cup was a huge disappointment for me too. It was hard for me coming back to Rangers after that for some time.” He said.

The 25-year-old’s performances have raised eyebrows abroad, and he could be on the move this summer.
