Ex-Super Eagles player reveals why Liverpool may regret letting Awoniyi go

Former Super Eagles star believes Liverpool will regret allowing the former Union Berlin forward leave if he shines at Nottingham

Taiwo Awoniyi completed a £17.5m move to Nottingham Forest on Saturday and became the club’s most expensive signing ever.

Ndubisi Chukunyere, a former Super Eagles player has expressed his satisfaction with the former Liverpool player’s move to Nottingham Forest and added that it’s a good one for the attacker.

Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 and left in 2021, six years after being unable to make any appearance for the Reds.

He was loaned to Belgium, Netherlands, Germany before completing a permanent move to Berlin in 2021. His first full season at the club came with goodies and saw the player score 15 goals in 31 league games.

Chukunyere said the player is built for the Premier League and will do well.

“I never saw this coming but without any doubt, Awoniyi has proven to be Premier League material with his performances in Germany,” Chukunyere told Goal.

“Many may argue that Liverpool at that time had [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane, and [Roberto] Firmino, but the reality remains that Awoniyi was not given that chance to prove his worth,” he continued.

“Well, all these things happen in football but trust me, if our man shines with Forest, Liverpool will bite their fingers for letting a quality player go.

“Until then, we can only hope that Awoniyi makes everyone proud and justify the price tag,” he said.
