Dessers wins fifth personal award at Feyenoord

The Super Eagles star will not don the Castle Lords jersey next season, but he got a well-deserved parting gift

Former Eredivisie champions Feyenoord have named Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers as their best player for the month of May.

Dessers capped a brilliant season with Feyenoord with three goals in May, to take his goal tally to 20 for the Castle Lords. The Super Eagles striker hit two late goals in Feyenoord’s comeback against PSV Eindhoven and scored the consolation for his side in their 2-1 loss to Twente.

Following his performance, the former Utrecht man has been named the Castle Lords May player of the month.

The award does not just ensure that he clinched the last two Player of the month awards for last season. It is also his fifth personal award of the 2021/22 season, after winning the player of the month and goal of the month awards last November.

However, even with all the accolades that the Nigeria international scooped last season, Feyenoord still refused to sign him permanently, as they felt Genk’s €4.5million-valuation of the striker was to high.
