Transfer: Aston Villa target Rangers’ Super Eagles star

The Villans are targeting a move for the Glasgow Rangers defender as they look to strengthen ahead of next season

Calvin Bassey has had an impressive season so far and Aston Villa are looking to submit a bid for the 22-year old Super Eagles star.

The manager who brought Bassey from Leicester to Scotland is interested in luring him to the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard has been at Aston Villa and has had a topsy-turvy opening to his Premier League career.

With Phillipe Coutinho’s permanent signature already secured, Gerrard is looking to strengthen ahead of the next season, and sees Bassey as a significant addition according to the The Telegraph via the Scotsman.

Bassey still has more than two years on his contract and is expected to cost a good amount especially on the back of an impressive season that has seen him feature in the left back and centre back positions.

His versatility has been special all season and his presence has helped the Gers to a final appearance in the Europa League.

Loved by Rangers fans, a Premier League move is expected to be a step up for the defender if he moves.
