The appreciative Spanish fans have concluded plans to sing a new song for their Nigerian import during their next match
Almeria fans have displayed their creativity and appreciation in creating a song about and for Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq, intending to chant it during the Rojiblancos’ next league match this weekend.
There is so much the Rojiblancos fans can be grateful for as Almeria edge ever so close to a return to the Spanish La Liga, seven years after they were demoted from the elite division.
With four matches left this season, the Almeriensistas have 73 points, four more than their closest pursuers Real Valladolid, and sit second on the league table – the last automatic promotion spot.
Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq has been crucial to that success, with his 16 goals and 11 assists in 32 league games making up a massive 45 per cent of Almeria’s goals scored.
This incredible output not only made Sadiq the club’s leading goalscorer but also the top assist provider and the Segunda Division’s most valuable player.
Grateful for his contribution, Almeria fans have created a simple but catchy song about Sadiq.
The chant uses the rhythm and an adaptation of the lyrics of the intergenerational hit “Obí, Obá” by The Gypsy Prince but includes Sadiq Umar in the equation.
It goes: “Sadiq Umar, I love you more every day; Sadiq, Sadiq; Umar, Umar, I love you more every day.”
Fans are ready to chant the song when La Union host SD Amorebieta at the Mediterranean Games Stadium in a matchday 39 clash on Saturday.
