Outstanding Osimhen powers Napoli to victory against Genoa

The Super Eagles star gave yet another spectacular performance for the Partenopeans to keep their hopes of a second-place finish alive

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored the opener for Napoli as they thrashed Serie A strugglers Genoa 3-0 at the Diego Maradona stadium.

After a tough victory at Torino last week, Napoli welcomed strugglers Genoa in what was expected to be a straightforward win for Luciano Spalletti’s men. However, Napoli had to be wary, as Genoa pipped Juventus 2-1 last time out.

Genoa put up a strong front in the opening embers.

Nonetheless, Napoli got their breakthrough in the 32nd minute, as Osimhen once again showed his aerial prowess and headed into the net to give the Partenopeans a one-goal lead.

Napoli had other chances to increase their lead in the first half, but they failed to take their chances.

However, they pulled away from the visitors in the second period.

Napoli won a penalty after a Genoa player handled the ball in the box. Captain Lorenzo Insigne took the spot-kick, but he missed. Nonetheless, Giovanni Di Lorenzo was on hand to tuck the rebound past Salvatore Sirigu.

Napoli saw many chances to make the scoreline embarrassing for Genoa, but Stanislav Lobotka’s 81st-minute finish ensured it ended 3-0 at the Diego Maradona stadium.

The Partenopeans now sit two points behind second-placed Inter Milan, who have a game in hand.

Osimhen’s strike against the Griffins takes his goal tally to 14 in the Serie A.
