Calvin Bassey was a rock at the back for Rangers in the Europa League final and even his Super Eagles teammate saw how solid he was
Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo said Bassey was the man-of-the-match for him in Rangers’ unfortunate loss to Frankfurt in the final of the Europa League.
Bassey posted an excellent performance for 120 minutes, and turned the eye of the world to his path as he won aerial and ground duels, picked clean passes and made vital interceptions.
His ruggedness was pure on one-on-one situations and was arguably the best Gers player on the night.
Omeruo tweeted his opinion as the game wore on in recognition of Bassey’s beastly performance in the game.
The player had 8 ball recoveries, 4 clearances, won 4 ground and aerial duels, made 3 interceptions and blocked 1 shot in 120 minutes.
His presence proved to be a key cog for the Scottish team as they battled for the entire duration of the game which ended on a disappointing note for the Nigerian, his Super Eagles teammate and the rest of the Rangers family.
Joe Aribo had given Rangers the lead in the 57th minute but was pegged back by Rafael Santos Borre’s equaliser for Frankfurt in the 69th minute. A missed Aaron Ramsey penalty during the shootout ended Rangers’ hopes of lifting a second European trophy.
