The French giants proved too hot to handle for Barcelona Femeni in the first half and managed the game till the end
Six minutes into the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League game in Turin, Lyon put one past Barcelona.
The early goal gave the French giants a strong opener as they looked settled and in control of the final.
Barcelona, chasing a successive UEFA Women’s Champions League title looked out of place in the opening exchanges and conceded the second goal in the 23rd minute. Norwegian forward Ada Hergerberg gave Lyon the perfect opening to the final.
While Barcelona soon settled and dominated possession, Catania Macario made it three in the 33rd minute to put the game beyond the Blaugrana.
Barcelona Femeni star, Alexia Putellas reduced the deficit just before the break as he scored in the 41st minute.
After a wasteful first half, Barcelona made instant changes in the second half as Asisat Oshoala replaced Jennifer Hermoso.
Her introduction added more bite to the Barcelona attack but did nothing to change the scoreline as the Lyon defense stood resolute to keep their opposition trailing.
Oshoala completed 7 of her 8 attempted passes and looked sharp but could not help Barcelona win a successive European title and march towards a treble.
They will now focus on the Copa De La Reina where they are in the semifinal stage.
