Lookman, Iheanacho’s European dreams end as Roma pip Leicester to final

The Super Eagles stars were on the losing side in Rome as Leicester failed to qualify for a first European final

Ademola Lookman struggled for 45 minutes as Leicester were knocked out of the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

AS Roma had forced the Foxes to a 1-1 draw at the King’s Power Stadium and showed they meant business in Rome when Tammy Abraham’s bullet header gave them a deserved lead.

Lookman, who got Leicester’s equaliser in the first leg struggled to spark in Rome and was rightfully hauled off at half time for Daniel Amartey as Brendan Rodgers regrouped his troops.

Iheanacho replaced Harvey Barnes at the beginning of the second 45 minutes but could not help draw Leicester back in the game.

Roma held forth for 83 minutes and kept Leicester at bay in a game that struggled to produce many moments of brilliance.

The Foxes won’t be playing in Europe next season as they are on the wrong end of the Premier League log.

Roma have qualified for a European final in their first season under Jose Mourinho and for the first time in 31 years. The Giallorossi will face Feyenoord in the final of the competition after the Rotterdammers held Marseille to a draw at the Stade De Velodrome.

Feyenoord had defeated Marseille 3-2 in the first leg of the encounter courtesy of a Cyriel Dessers double.
