Disappointing outing for Ighalo, as Al Hilal lose Saudi Arabia Kings Cup to Al Fayha

The Nigerian striker had a forgettable night for Al Za’eem as he could not help his side reclaim the Saudi Arabian crown

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo had a night to forget, as he missed his penalty in Al Hilal’s penalty defeat to Al Fayha in the finals of the Saudi Arabia Kings Cup.

Al Hilal missed out on the Saudi Arabian crown last year, but they went into the fixture against Al Fayha as favorites. With the league almost lost to Al Ittihad, Al-Hilal had a chance to claim a domestic title.

The Asian champions controlled the game from the very blast of the whistle, trying to carve out their opponents. However, they finally received their reward seconds before the break. Saleem Al Dawsari pounced onto a ball and fired home to give Al Hilal the lead.

Nonetheless, Al Fayha picked themselves up in the second half and equalized Ramon.

Ighalo was caged and given little room to operate.

After seeing out 90 minutes and extra time, the game entered into penalties.

Unfortunately for Al Hilal, they missed three of their spot-kicks, one of which was off Ighalo’s boots.

Both teams were not great with their spot-kick, but Al Fayha triumphed 3-1 on penalties.
