We have seen it many times before, a coach of a Nigerian side loses and they turn to blame their poor performance on the pitch.
Well, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has taken the same route to heap some of the blame for their 4-2 loss to city rivals Arsenal on the state of the Stamford Bridge pitch.
Eddie Nketiah scored a brace as Emile Smith Row and Bukayo Saka added one each. The Blues scored via Timo Werner and Cesar Azpilicueta.
“I have to say, the pitch is difficult to play here,” Tuchel said after Wednesday’s game. “Maybe sounds like an excuse, but it’s a very difficult pitch that we have here.”
That’s right, it is no more than an excuse, Herr Tuchel. Your team was roundly beaten by a better opponent on the night, on the same pitch that you feel is not good enough.
Chelsea remain in third place with the FA Cup the remaining trophy they can win this season.
