Two Nigerian internationals are among the most prolific nutmeg kings in the English top-flight, with one reigning supreme over all
According to a report by OLBG via Watford Observer, Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis has more nutmegs than anyone else in the Premier League this season.
The nutmeg is an eye-catching skill that entails dribbling past an opponent by playing the ball through his legs.
And in his maiden campaign in the English elite division, Dennis, who is also Watford’s top goalscorer with nine goals, sits top of the individual nutmeg table.
With 20 nutmegs, the Nigerian international is the most prolific nutmegger this season, beating his closest rivals, Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho and Leeds United’s Raphina, both of whom have 14.
Wolves’ Francisco Trincao (13) and Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo (11) complete the top five.
Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi is the second Super Eagles star in the top 20, with the former Arsenal ace recording five nutmegs this term.
Aside from Dennis and Iwobi, other Africans on the top list include Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha (9), West Ham’s Said Benrahma (8), Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (8), Watford’s Ismaila Sarr (8), Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech (7), and Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew (5).
In addition to mastering the skill of knocking the ball between his opponents’ legs, Dennis is also adept at scoring goals and creating chances for his teammates.
Despite Watford’s struggles, the former Club Brugge man has found the back of the net nine times while adding another five assists.
It may, however, not be enough to save the Golden Boys from relegation as they currently sit 19th on the league table, six points from safety, and with only seven matches left.
