Victor Osimhen arrived late at Napoli after the international break and that had generated a fuss around fans of the club.
Contrary to many reports that the attacker intentionally stayed late, Napoli Director, Cristiano Giuntoli said the player sought permission to see to some family matters and report late.
In an interview with DAZN, Giuntoli said he’s surprised the issue is generating so much talk as the player and the club have had no disagreement.
He also described Osimhen as an exceptional lad and a good professional.
Osimhen was ineligible for Napoli’s game against Atalanta on Saturday and didn’t arrive until Sunday morning.
“We don’t understand why there is controversy around this, because he was given permission to take time off after international duty and he arrived on schedule,” Giuntoli said.
“He is an extraordinary lad, a great professional, so the question ought to be why these things emerge in the media. Of course, there won’t be a fine, he was given permission,”
Osimhen didn’t join the rest of the squad on Monday as they did recovery sessions but instead participated in a training match with Napoli’s Primavera team.
Napoli will next face Fiorentina as they keep chasing a Scudetto title and cement their place in the Champions League.
