Nigeria draw Ghana again in WAFU U-17, U-20

The latest draws mean Nigeria has drawn Ghana in almost every level of national football in the past two years.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria and Golden Eaglets, national U-20 and U-17 teams respectively have drawn Ghana in the WAFU tournament.

In draws released on Friday, Nigeria was grouped alongside Ghana and Burkina Faso in the U-20 and Ghana and Togo in the U-17.

Recall that the Super Falcons also drew Ghana at the AWCON qualifiers but overtook them before facing Ivory Coast and qualifying for the tournament to be staged in Morocco later in the year.

Ghana had knocked the Super Eagles out of qualification for the AYC in 2020 after the Ladan Bosso-led team failed to scale past the group.

Nigeria are in group A for the U-17 draws and are in group B for the U-20.

The WAFU B zone where Nigeria belongs will provide two teams for the competitions meaning the only the leaders of each group will qualify for the main tournament.

Recall that the NFF had announced Bosso as coach of the Flying Eagles and Nduka Ugbade as coach of the Golden Eaglets in appointments made on Thursday.

Nigeria missed the last editions of both the U-17 and U-20 African Youth Championships.

The Black Stars knocked Ghana out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
