The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set a 5-day ultimatum for its technical and development sub-committees to recommend a new coach for the Super Eagles.
After a meeting of the NFF’s executive committee on Tuesday, the decision to appoint new coaches for the Super Eagles and other vacant national teams was reached.
The CHAN team, U-20 boys team and the Golden Eaglets are also expected to have new recommendations for their coaches.
NFF apologised to Nigerians for the failure to qualify for the World Cup and hailed the Minister of Sports and Youth development for his support.
In a communique of the meeting, it was stated that the NFF has charged its constituent committees to come up with a list of coaches for the male national teams.
Recall that Austin Eguavoen was appointed on an interim basis prior to the qualifiers for the World Cup. The former Super Eagles coach stepped down from his role while other members of the coaching crew were dismissed.
“The Executive Committee its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to, within the next 5 days, make recommendations to the Executive Committee on coaching crews for the Super Eagles, the CHAN team, the U20 Boys (Flying Eagles) and the U17 Boys (Golden Eaglets) ahead of upcoming assignments. This is to ensure preparations for the next qualifying tournaments and championships commence in earnest,” the communique read in part.
The NFF had appointed Fatai Amoo as coach of the Golden Eaglets while Ladan Bosso was appointed Flying Eagles coach. Both coaches didn’t work with any team during their appointments as Nigeria did not feature in any tournament nor assemble a team for both age-grade national teams.
